Alaró is a quiet inland village in the Raiguer, set right at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana between Palma and Inca. It is a world away from the coastal resorts: a working Mallorcan town with a pretty square, a couple of cafes and, towering above it, the crag and ruined castle of the Castell d'Alaró. For riders who want to wake up at the foot of the mountains rather than drive to them, it is one of the most authentic bases on the island.
The location is the appeal. From the village the road tips up almost immediately, and within minutes you are climbing toward Orient, one of Mallorca's prettiest valleys, and over the Coll d'Honor toward Bunyola and the Coll de Sóller. The full Tramuntana spine is on your doorstep, so the big days, Sa Calobra, Puig Major and Cap Formentor, all link up from here, while the flatter lanes of Es Pla run the other way toward Sineu for easy recovery miles. It is climbing country first, best suited to riders who actively want the gradient.
Being inland, Alaró is quieter and cooler than the coast, and it rides well right through the season, with spring and autumn the pick. It suits independent riders and small groups who value a genuine village base and immediate access to the mountains over beachfront convenience. The road and gravel bikes listed above come from the shop based in Alaró.
